Custard Cupcake

Acrylic on paper, while using the Renaissance Art which is best suited when I want to incorporate a greater sense of light and color. Here, I wanted to stress upon the fluffiness of the cream and cause your eye to view it in 3D.

  1. Why are the candles so... phallic? The fact that you paint (or draw) them so short and stocky and that you never miss to paint their bases and you do include the "ball-ish"-shaped molten wax is very conspicuous. And this cupcake and the apple too... very strikingly vulviform. Is that effect intentional?

  2. It definitely wasn't intentional to make them appear phallic/ vulviform, but rather focus was on the round and plumpness of the objects. As in the Custard Cupcake, the emphasis was on the fluffiness of the cake. You may also notice in Preparing a Romantic Dinner, most of the objects look stocky whether they are the wine glasses, the vegetables (peas, capsicum) or the jars and bottles. It is the personal touch to my works. :)

  3. There is a sadness in your works which I like.
Food, to me, is intrinsically linked to emotions.
I associate food with seasons and the weather. But what you did here is amazing because you've managed to replicate the link I have with food and the weather in another medium which is painting. I love cloudy weather the most.

  4. According to me, the use of Renaissance Technique is best suited when it comes to express sadness, loneliness and other emotions because of the contradiction we are exposed to. Dark colors shows the pain or negative facets whereas the vivid colors of the objects depicts the beauty of the objects in focus and its positive aspects. Moreover, comfy food as we know is a resort in times of distress, so this is how it becomes a frequent subject of observation.
